Happy New Year

It's 2017!  I hope everyone's holidays were everything you wanted them to be.  They always go by so fast!  After taking down our Christmas decorations the house always seems so bare.  I kind of like it though, a fresh slate just like the new year.  I transitioned some of our décor to winter.  When I think of winter I think of white, gray, all neutrals.  Also, I think of a little sparkle.  Mercury glass, candles and maybe a twinkle light…

Festive Touches in the Kitchen

As promised, here are a few photos of my kitchen with some Christmas décor!  I didn't do a whole lot of decorating in the kitchen.  It seems to have so much going on anyway.  Cooking, homework, artwork, etc.  I do wish I had put up a wreath on my hood.  Maybe next year! You may remember the cardinals on our tree in the dining room.  I just love placing them all over the house at the holidays!  They give a…

O Christmas Tree

The tree is up!  Don't you just love a real tree with colored lights?  Reminds me of my childhood.  Ours would probably be considered "vintage" these days.  No specific style, just full of ornaments from Christmases past.  A few from my childhood, handmade ones by the girls and some new mixed in.  The big question- white or colored lights?  I learned a from a friend to add a couple of strands of white lights to the colored and it takes it…

Perfect Imperfections

Wow, blogging sure has changed since 2009!  Truth is, my home has been decorated for Christmas for weeks.  I see all of these beautiful Holiday Home Tour blog posts and I am totally intimidated.  I have no experience in photography.  Do not have Photoshop.  Just an iPhone.  I've been taking photos over and over trying to get the right angle, right lighting, etc. obsessing over the details.  Do I hire someone to come take professional pics?  Do I invest in a complicated…

Leaf Butterflies

Carry your love of butterflies into the fall this year!  Here is a simple, pretty idea for decorating your home for autumn while still including the beautiful butterfly.   Collect your favorite color turned leaves from the yard.  I can't ever decide between red or orange! Press between the pages of a heavy book for two weeks. Use a small strip of plain paper for base. With a skewer, apply glue to tip of a leaf; secure to base for a bottom wing. Working…

Fall Decorating

Well I just can't wait any longer to transform my home into a fall wonderland!  I almost enjoy decorating for fall as much as Christmas.  Anyone else feel that way?  Don't get me wrong I love Christmas decorations.  I think I am just more drawn to fall colors. For fall I change out centerpieces, decorate the mantle, change pillow covers, and burn pumpkin spice scented candles.  YUM!  I keep it confined to the family room and outdoors (wreath, mums).  My mom…

Fit for a Party

Beverage dispensers have been all the rage this summer.  I've seen several great ones but this one tops them all.  The elegant stem makes this one the best.  How pretty would this look at your drink station?  I bet it would steal the show!   You can purchase this beauty here.…

Picket Fence Pots

How many of you grow your own herbs?  I tried to grow an herb garden inside once but was unsuccessful.  I think I watered too much.  It was the Chia Herb Garden which I though was supposed to be foolproof!  I've been wanting to try again for awhile.  Not only do they make any dish even better, but they are also lovely to look at in a kitchen window.  I just love this picket fence container idea for your herbs.  Not…
